Caring Community Committee

The Beth Emeth Caring Committee is re-organizing and re-energizing. The team provides a range of services including contacting those who are ill or need assistance. In addition, the Caring Committee creates and delivers baskets 4 times a year for those who are in bereavement, ill, in a nursing home, or over 90 years of age. Our Designated Drivers Program assists folks who may need a ride.

We are looking for more volunteers for the Friendship Team and all other areas of the Caring Committee.  If you are interested in becoming a member of this Committee, please contact the office at (302)764-2393.

Do you need a ride to the synagogue?

Do you need a ride to the doctor?

We have a transportation team to help. If you need a ride simply call the office, 764-2393, or Edwin Gittelman, the team leader.

CCC Survey
The Caring Community Connection is trying to gather information on the needs of our congregants. To help the CCC determine how we can best meet the needs of the congregants of Beth Emeth, we encourage you to complete our survey.

Caring Community Committee Teams

Transportation Team

We provide transportation for those who need it, mainly to services. We keep people in touch with the community by bringing them to the community. Individuals who cannot drive themselves know that they have a way to participate in the Beth Emeth community, and drivers have the opportunity to get to know someone who they might not have met otherwise. If you know someone who needs transportation, or someone who wishes to volunteer to drive, all they need to do is call the office.  back to top

Home for the Holidays

We match individuals who do not have a family locally with families that would like to have someone join them for holiday meals. We'd like no one to spend a holiday alone. This is another way to strengthen the community by building new relationships.  back to top

Caring Community Corner

We communicate with the congregation on a regular basis to remind everyone of the many ways to show we care.  In the Caring Community Corner of the Orbit, we have a short suggeston to help remind all of us that we're a caring community.  We encourage congregants to inform the office if someone is in the hospital or has a major illness, to register their affiliation with Beth Emeth in a hospital so the clergy will know they're there, and to share good news.  back to top

Friendship Team

We bring companionship and friendship to the isolated and lonely, especially the elderly and post hospital patients, with regular phone calls, cards & notes, and visits that include helping with housework and shopping.  We build relationships with individuals who are homebound to keep them in touch with the community and to make sure they're okay.  We also serve the needs of families, especially for patients recently discharged from the hospital.  back to top

Bereavement Team

We support families of the bereaved by providing a meal of condolence (sometimes with Sisterhood's help), helping to notify people of the death and funeral arrangements, paying a Shiva call (perhaps making sure there is a minyan and support for a service), sending a condolence card, calling after one or two months to check on the individual, and any other overall support.  back to top

Care Baskets

We provide a basket of "goodies" for a holiday just to show we care.  We are working with our Sisterhood to expand the program.  back to top

Getting to Know You

We compile a series of interviews of congregants to be distributed with pictures to get to know each other better. We also try to create ways to strengthen community, such as name tags at services, having tables and chairs available after the oneg, and other activities.
