Budget & Finance Committee

The purpose of the Budget and Finance Committee is to:

  • Maintain a balanced budget
  • Develop a "Fair Share" dues structure that will fund approximately 80% of our expenditures with the remaining 20% deriving from fees, donations and fund raising events
  • Support a dynamic religious school education for our youth with fees that cover 50% of the religious school expenditures
  • Support a broad range of activities for all members
  • Maintain salaries for our clergy and staff that are consistent with URJ and local standards
Our Philosophy
The Budget and Finance Committee is committed to the philosophy that any Jewish family in the Wilmington area can be a member of congregation Beth Emeth regardless of their financial situation. The goal of the Budget and Finance Committee is to develop a budget for Board approval that provides support for a broad range of religious, education and social activities with a "Fair Share" dues structure that meets the needs of all of our members.

The Budget and Finance Committee work with all committee chairman and staff to develop a budget that can be approved at the May meeting of the Board of Trustees. All expenditures are evaluated each year so that we fund those items that have the highest value for all members. At the same time the "Fair Share" dues structure, fees and other revenue sources are revised to achieve the necessary revenue to support these expenditures and to achieve a balanced budget..

The Finance Committee works with the Temple office to insure that members pay their dues at the appropriate time so that funds are available to support the activities of Congregation Beth Emeth. Members having financial difficulties can work out payment schedules that will allow the continuation of their membership.
