Sisterhood / WRJ

We are an organization of women who work together to support our congregation and our community. We are friends who gather for study, social activities and above all, for the personal growth of the individual so that each may find an opportunity to fulfill her potential as a person and as a Jewish woman.

On a national level, the Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Emeth is part of the Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ). We support many national and worldwide programs of the Reform Movement through our Youth, Education and Special Projects fund (YES Fund). We share programs and ideas with women around the country.

Our ultimate goal is to meet the needs of women of all ages and lifestyles who are part of our congregation. Whether you are a new member of the congregation, a mother of a religious schoolchild, single or newly married woman or retired, there is a place for you at Sisterhood. Our Rosh Chodesh observances are both educational and fun, as we explore ways to celebrate this holiday designated for women. In service to the community, Sisterhood members can be found cooking and serving food for the Emanuel Dining Hall. On a quieter note, we will continue to provide holiday greetings to our college/military youth, light the Shabbat candles, decorate for Sukkot, and support religious school activities, while providing an annual Shabbat luncheon and Passover baskets for some of the Seniors in our community.

We invite you to join Sisterhood and become part of a great organization that will enrich your life and make a difference at Congregation Beth Emeth.  Please contact the temple with any questions about joining Sisterhood or about upcoming events.

Newest Recycling Initiative in Place
Have you seen the new recycling bins in the social hall and kitchen?  If so, you may have questions about what materials are accepted for recycling.  Please recycle:  bottles (empty & rinsed, glass or plastic), cans (empty & rinsed, aluminum or tin), office paper, and newspaper.  Please do NOT recycle, but continue to place in the garbage:  Styrofoam or paper cups, paper plates, napkins, paper towels, etc. and anything with food on it. Thank you for helping us to minimize the waste we send to the landfill.  For information about the recycling program or to become a sponsor, please contact Heather Margolin.

Sale – November 2nd & 3rd

Sisterhood’s Semi-Annual sale will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 2 and Thursday, Nov. 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Set up Sunday, Oct. 30, 1:00 – 4:00 pm., Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

As we start looking at our clothes that we no longer want or no longer fit us, things our children have outgrown or will not wear, please donate them to our sale (tax donation forms will be available).

The following items in good condition are needed: adult and children’s clothing, shoes and sneakers, leather goods, toys, games, electronic items, computers, books, kitchen articles and appliances, linens, drapes, rugs, luggage, garden tools, pictures, antiques, small furniture (please check to see if we can handle them), jewelry, and collectables.

Donations will be accepted beginning Sunday, October 15th. If you must get things out of your house early, please call me and I will see if we can make arrangements to accept them.

All items go to good use and the majority of our clients cannot afford to shop at department stores and rely on our sales. All items that are left over go to various charities.

The money we collect goes to the worthwhile programs that Sisterhood sponsors and things that Beth Emeth needs.

We need volunteers to help set up on Sunday, Oct. 30, 1:00 – 4:00 pm., Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We also need volunteers for both sale dates. Sisterhood Judaica Shop has a Website!!!
We have joined forces wih Judaica Beautiful to offer our customers a beautful, easy way to shop from their own homes.  The items are all georgeous!!  Some are the same as we have avilable in house, but many others are items we would not be able to stock due to their large order minimums and overhead.  Sisterhood gets a percentage of all sales made from the site, while Judaica Beautiful does all the work...  It's a WIN - WIN situation!!!  Shop now.
We are also able to offer advertising space on our site, so if you know of anyone who may benefit from an advertisement there, or have suggestions for where we can promote our site, please see Kim vonWeltin.
