Tzedakah 2009: The Beth Emeth Job Mitzvah Networking Corps

Increasing numbers of Beth Emeth congregants are jobless. Those who are unemployed are not looking for charity, but opportunities to work again. Beth Emeth launches the Job Mitzvah Networking Corps to connect job seekers with potential employment opportunities via networking.

This is a pilot program for the pooling of resources to assist members of the congregation looking for employment to connect with individuals who may be: 1) aware of employment opportunities, or 2) able to connect job seekers to resources, and/or be able to assist individuals during their employment transitioning. Various job networking avenues will be established in the temple, including but not limited to communications in the various temple publications, the Jobs' Networking Club, and temple organizations, such as Brotherhood and Sisterhood. Questions should be sent via email to Jobsmitzvahcorps@aol.com.

"The highest level of tzedakah is s/he who helps their friend who is experiencing difficult financial times. S/he either gives a present, a loan or makes the person a partner in order that individuals should not become poor and dependent on charitable alms. Also included in this level is that finding for the person suitable employment before the individual becomes poor. Here is the highest level of giving - helping a person maintain themselves in order that s/he should not fall financially and become indigent." - Maimonides
